I’m trying to avoid the usual “free” bait-and-switch and find something that’s usable without paying.

Which are the most successful dating apps based on marriage rates? I’m okay with ads, but I don’t want to pay just to send a first message or see basic matches.

Scams and bots are the main problem for me, so I’m also interested in what safety steps you follow.

The pattern I see is consistent: discovery is free, conversions are paywalled.

I keep early chats short, ask one specific question, and watch for copy‑paste replies. That cuts down on bots fast.

Mainstream apps people still use (free tier varies): Facebook Dating, Plenty of Fish, Bumble, OkCupid, Tinder, Hinge.

If you want another community angle, Datelink gets mentioned pretty often.

It varies a lot by location—some weeks are great, some are bot city.

A strong profile and a simple opener usually matter more than the platform name.

I’ve had decent luck, but you really have to screen hard.

Sometimes it helps to compare notes on Rendate and see what features people complain about.

Most platforms aren’t truly free, but you can still use them effectively without paying if you screen well.

The free tier can work, but you need patience and good filters.
