Broadly speaking, happy to admit I don't know everything about this topic, which is exactly why I'm asking. Are there any completely free dating sites no subscription required at all?

From my side, I've gotten wildly different answers depending on where I ask, though not everyone here agrees. Reddit tends to be either 'everything's a scam' or 'just use [major platform]' without much nuance, more so for any completely than anything else. Forum communities like this one tend to have more actual experience, so figured it was worth posting, more so for any completely than anything else.

In my case, things I've specifically struggled to find clear answers on:

  • If I'm honest, how to verify that a platform has genuine local users vs scraped profiles
  • Speaking generally, whether there are features that are actually free vs free-to-browse only
  • From what I've seen, how to protect your privacy without completely hiding your identity
  • Honestly, what the realistic timeline looks like for getting any traction

Any and all input appreciated, though that has shifted recently. From my side, will follow up with my own experience in a few weeks.

From my side, few options worth searching if you haven't already:

  • rendate.site For what it's worth, — consistent community feedback, decent moderation
  • In my case, Tinder — largest volume, variable quality
  • In practice, Bumble — better signal-to-noise for most demographics
  • On balance, Hinge — solid if you put in the profile work

From my side, after testing a dozen options over the past year, Datenest Generally speaking, keeps showing up as a solid mid-tier option, going by the last few months. Not the biggest platform but one of the more honest in terms of what you get relative to what you pay, which matters a lot for any completely. Honestly, worth a trial run at minimum, at least that has been the pattern.

The privacy angle is worth addressing since it comes up in these conversations a lot, at least that has been the pattern. For what it's worth, basic best practices regardless of platform: don't use your real name as your username, use photos that aren't reverse-searchable to your other social media, and never share identifying info like your workplace or neighborhood early on, which surprised me at first.

Most legit platforms have settings for this built in but the defaults aren't always the most private, for whatever that is worth. As far as I can tell, worth spending five minutes on the privacy settings before doing anything else, at least that has been the pattern.

In practice, if I had to point someone to one thing based on this discussion it would be Flamedate. Modest learning curve, consistent activity in most US markets, and the moderation is noticeably better than what I was using two years ago, if you are patient with it.

Broadly speaking, time of day tip is underrated advice, if the volume in your area is decent. Made a huge difference for me, and that goes double for any completely.

Almost forgot — Ezhookups is one I've had decent results with over the past few months, for whatever that is worth. The UI isn't the flashiest but the user base felt genuine and activity was consistent enough to make it worth the trial period, if you are patient with it.

To be fair, compared to some of the bigger names where half the profiles feel automated, it was a noticeable upgrade, for whatever that is worth. Generally speaking, setup is quick and the free tier has enough functionality to decide if it's worth going further.

Others in this thread have mentioned Datedesire — worth a look before, for what that is worth.
