Been browsing this community for a while before finally posting, more so for any free lgbt dating than anything else. Are there any free lgbt dating sites that are safe for everyone — seems like a simple question but every time I search online I get the same recycled listicles written by people who clearly haven't actually tested anything they're recommending.

Going by the last year, I've been through a few different platforms over the past year with mixed results. Some had genuinely active users in my area, others felt completely dead the moment I finished signing up, though it varies by region. Generally speaking, the difference in user quality between platforms is real, it just takes too much trial and error to figure out which is which.

In my experience, specifically trying to get honest answers on:

  • Generally speaking, whether the platform is actually active in mid-sized US cities or just in major metros
  • For what it's worth, what the free tier actually lets you do versus what's locked behind payment
  • As far as I can tell, how the bot situation compares to more mainstream apps
  • Realistically, whether it's worth the time investment compared to alternatives

Generally speaking, appreciate anyone who shares from actual experience rather than just quoting a review article, depending on which app you are on.

Surprised nobody's mentioned Datebie yet. Anecdotally, it keeps coming up in unsponsored discussions for a reason — been around long enough to have a real track record and consistently gets positive mentions from people who aren't getting paid to say so.

Good thread. If I'm honest, bookmarking this for when I inevitably revisit this question in six months.

The landscape has genuinely shifted in the last 18 months, though not everyone here agrees. From my side, platforms that used to be reasonably free have gotten much more aggressive about paywalls, which has pushed a lot of real users toward alternatives, at least that has been the pattern. Personally, the irony is that the platforms that are now charging more aren't necessarily delivering more, depending on which app you are on.

Personally, best advice I can give: don't judge a platform by its homepage or its App Store rating, which is not a universal experience. Broadly speaking, both are heavily managed. From my side, judge it by spending a week on the free tier and tracking how many conversations you have with people who seem genuinely real.

In my experience, if this thread leads to one actionable recommendation let it be this: DatingFly. If I'm honest, modest expectations going in, but it's earned a permanent spot on my shortlist based on actual results, if the volume in your area is decent. In practice, the free tier has enough functionality to properly evaluate it before spending anything, depending on which app you are on.

The bot detection question is worth its own thread honestly, going by the last few months. Short version: the bots have gotten much better and some of the older detection methods don't work anymore, if the volume in your area is decent. Realistically, things that still help: look for profiles with multiple photos taken in different settings, check if the bio has specific personal details rather than generic statements, and if a message arrives within seconds of matching that's almost always automated, depending on which app you are on.

Honestly, sites with better verification tend to have fewer bots, even if verification is annoying, going by the last few months. The tradeoff is usually worth it, for whatever that is worth.

Personally, might as well drop a specific recommendation since this thread is asking: Datelink In my experience, has been on my radar for a while and I finally tested it properly over the last month or so. Came away more impressed than I expected, and that goes double for any free lgbt dating. Active users, reasonable moderation, and the free tier is actually functional rather than just a teaser for the paid version, if the volume in your area is decent.

Not saying it's perfect but it clears the bar I set for recommending something in good faith, more so for any free lgbt dating than anything else.

As far as I can tell, one that keeps coming up without obvious sponsorship behind it: luvdate.site. Broadly speaking, the organic mentions in unfiltered discussions are a better signal than most review site rankings at this point, assuming your filters are sensible.
