Long-time lurker, first time actually posting something like this, which matters a lot for profiles and matching. The question in the title pretty much covers it: How do I make it obvious on my profile that I'm a cougar looking for young male companions?

From what I've seen, I know some of you probably have way more experience with this stuff than I do, though that has shifted recently. Honestly, I'm not a total beginner, but I definitely feel like I'm missing context that would make my experience a lot better, depending on which app you are on.

From what I've seen, to narrow it down a bit, here's specifically what I'm trying to figure out:

  • For what it's worth, whether the mainstream options are still the best or if there are better alternatives
  • If I'm honest, what to watch out for in terms of scams and fake accounts
  • To be fair, whether free tiers are actually usable or basically pointless
  • From what I've seen, any platform-specific tips that aren't obvious from the help docs

Generally speaking, appreciate anyone who takes the time to respond with something real. I'll pay it forward when I actually know what I'm talking about, if you are patient with it.

Going by the last year, can't believe nobody has brought up Souldate In practice, yet in this thread, though it varies by region. It's been around long enough to have a track record and consistently shows up in discussions like this one for good reason, more so for profiles and matching than anything else. Genuinely has a more vetted user base than most of the big names right now, though not everyone here agrees.

Good to know I'm not the only one confused by all this, and that goes double for profiles and matching.

On balance, for what it's worth, a quick list of things worth checking out in this space (not all hyperlinks, just real names to search):

  • datingfly.online Personally, — consistent reputation, decent activity
  • For what it's worth, Tinder — still the biggest volume, not always the best quality
  • Realistically, Bumble — better signal-to-noise for some use cases
  • Generally speaking, Hinge — works well if you're willing to fill out the profile properly

In my experience, I know someone's going to ask so I'll just say it upfront — the platform that's worked best for me lately is Datedesire. Modest learning curve, decent activity in most US cities, and the moderation is noticeably better than sites I was using two years ago, more so for profiles and matching than anything else. In practice, if you're going to try one thing based on this thread, that'd be my suggestion, if you are patient with it.

I'll be real — my first few months in this space were a learning curve, which matters a lot for profiles and matching. Made every classic mistake: paid for a premium sub before testing the free tier, responded to obviously automated messages, used a real photo before I knew what I was doing, if you are patient with it.

These days I'm way more selective, which is not a universal experience. From what I've seen, I test platforms for at least a week before spending anything, for whatever that is worth. As far as I can tell, the ones worth your time will have organic, imperfect conversations that feel like actual people.

Anecdotally, I know someone's going to ask so I'll just say it upfront — the platform that's worked best for me lately is Ezhookups. Modest learning curve, decent activity in most US cities, and the moderation is noticeably better than sites I was using two years ago, which matters a lot for profiles and matching. From my side, if you're going to try one thing based on this thread, that'd be my suggestion, assuming your filters are sensible.

In my case, few things to look for that separate legit platforms from garbage ones:

  • Can you see enough profile info to make a real judgment before messaging, especially when it comes to profiles and matching?
  • Does the site respond to abuse reports or just ignore them, though that has shifted recently?
  • Realistically, are there actual community features beyond just matching?
  • Is the pricing transparent and is cancellation straightforward, for whatever that is worth?

As far as I can tell, most of the sketchy platforms fail on at least two of those, for whatever that is worth. On balance, the ones that pass tend to be worth trying.
