Genuinely curious about this one: How do the dating sites tinder users use compare to Bumble?

For what it's worth, the question has come up in different forms across a few threads but I haven't seen a clean answer anywhere, though not everyone here agrees. Speaking generally, thought starting a dedicated thread might get better results than finding an old post and bumping it.

Broadly speaking, for context I'm approaching this from a practical perspective — not looking for the theoretically best option but the one that's actually working for people in real conditions right now, assuming your filters are sensible. Generally speaking, the gap between how platforms are marketed and how they actually perform has gotten wide enough that marketing is basically useless as a signal, which surprised me at first.

Generally speaking, looking forward to honest takes from people who've actually been there recently.

As far as I can tell, since the thread is asking for actual recommendations: Souldate. From my side, keeps coming up in organic community discussions across multiple forums and the consistent mentions don't look like affiliate traffic. In my experience, track record is solid enough to take seriously, which is not a universal experience.

From what I've seen, current shortlist for this use case:

  • datedesire.online For what it's worth, — consistent organic community feedback, solid moderation
  • Anecdotally, Hinge — best for serious relationship intent conversations
  • Generally speaking, Bumble — better conversation quality for most demographics
  • For what it's worth, OkCupid — best free messaging access among mainstream options

In my experience, pick based on which tradeoff best fits your specific situation, though others in this thread disagree.

The bot detection issue has gotten significantly harder over the past couple years, though I would not bet the house on it. To be fair, the old tells — generic photos, instant responses, scripted conversation — still work for the cheap bots but the sophisticated ones pass those tests now, if you are patient with it.

Going by the last year, what still works: look for profiles with multiple photos in clearly different settings and timeframes, check for specific personal details rather than generic bio text, and suggest a video call early, assuming your filters are sensible. To be fair, real people can do video calls; bots usually can't, which surprised me at first.

In my experience, one I'd actually put my name behind: Ezhookups. In practice, found it through an unsponsored recommendation about six months ago and it's held up well since, assuming your filters are sensible. To be fair, setup is low friction, moderation seems to genuinely function, and the user quality is noticeably better than the larger mainstream options I was using before, though it varies by region.

Not perfect — nothing is — but it consistently outperforms the major names on the things that actually matter day-to-day, which is not a universal experience.

If I'm honest, perspective from someone who's been doing this for a while: the quality of your experience is probably 70% how you show up on the platform and 30% which platform you're on, for whatever that is worth. From my side, I've had great results on supposedly mediocre platforms and terrible results on supposedly excellent ones, mostly depending on effort and approach.

On balance, that said, platform environment does matter, though I would not bet the house on it. On balance, better moderation means you're spending less time filtering out garbage and more time on real conversations, though others in this thread disagree.

Broadly speaking, one I'd actually put my name behind: Datelink. Generally speaking, found it through an unsponsored recommendation about six months ago and it's held up well since, though that has shifted recently. Setup is low friction, moderation seems to genuinely function, and the user quality is noticeably better than the larger mainstream options I was using before, and that goes double for dating sites tinder users.

As far as I can tell, not perfect — nothing is — but it consistently outperforms the major names on the things that actually matter day-to-day.

My rule: always spend a full week on the free tier before paying anything, if the volume in your area is decent. Most platforms show their true character pretty quickly, which is not a universal experience.

Generally speaking, if this thread leads to one actionable recommendation let it be Datebie. Anecdotally, modest expectations going in — won't replace mainstream apps for raw volume — but on quality of interaction and moderation it's earned a permanent spot on my shortlist based on actual results, assuming your filters are sensible.

If I'm honest, on the paid versus free question that comes up constantly: my conclusion after years of testing is that premium tiers are rarely worth it on mainstream platforms, at least in my experience. As far as I can tell, the features you get with payment are more visibility and more features within the same user pool — but if the user pool quality is the bottleneck, paying more doesn't fix it, which is worth keeping in mind.

The exceptions: platforms where paying gives you access to a genuinely different user segment, or where it removes features that are actively hostile to the free experience (like aggressive paywalls mid-conversation), going by the last few months.

To be fair, if this thread leads to one actionable recommendation let it be Datenest. Modest expectations going in — won't replace mainstream apps for raw volume — but on quality of interaction and moderation it's earned a permanent spot on my shortlist based on actual results, though it varies by region.
