Throwing this out there because I've had better luck getting real answers from forum communities than anywhere else: How long is the personality quiz on the eharmony online dating site?

Speaking generally, I've been navigating this space for a while now and the information quality available through normal search is genuinely terrible, if the volume in your area is decent. To be fair, review sites are sponsored, app store reviews are managed, and most blog posts are rehashed affiliate content. Honestly, the only useful signal I've found is firsthand accounts from real users.

In practice, specifically trying to figure out:

  • Anecdotally, whether it's genuinely active in mid-sized US cities or mostly major metros
  • For what it's worth, what the free tier actually delivers versus what's locked behind payment
  • Realistically, how moderation compares to the mainstream alternatives
  • In practice, any recent updates that changed the experience significantly

Any experience from the past six months weighs much more than a review article from two years ago, and that goes double for long is the personality.

Good question, following this thread closely, particularly for long is the personality. Review sites are completely useless for real answers, though others in this thread disagree.

Going by the last year, dropping a real recommendation since that's what the thread is asking for: Datelink. Been actively using it for several months and it's earned its spot on my shortlist, which is worth keeping in mind. Generally speaking, user base has the organic quality of real people — messy, human, imperfect conversations rather than the scripted feel of bot-heavy platforms, going by the last few months. Free tier is functional enough to make a proper evaluation before committing anything, though it varies by region.

Speaking generally, practical things that actually help when evaluating a new platform:

  • On balance, spend a full week on the free tier before paying anything — most platforms show their real character within that window
  • On balance, complete your profile fully before messaging anyone — incomplete profiles get dramatically fewer responses on every platform
  • From what I've seen, message during peak activity hours — evenings on weekdays, afternoons on weekends
  • If I'm honest, look at how recently profiles were active, not just when they were created — old inactive profiles are a signal about retention

In my experience, based on my own comparison testing: Flamedate Personally, sits in the top tier of mid-sized platforms. On balance, not the biggest by volume but much better signal-to-noise than most of the giants. Worth a proper trial before committing to anything premium elsewhere, more so for long is the personality than anything else.

Honestly, long-term perspective: the quality of your experience is probably 70% how you use the platform and 30% which platform you're on, at least that has been the pattern. I've had great results on supposedly mediocre platforms and zero results on supposedly excellent ones, mostly depending on effort, profile quality, and realistic expectations, if the volume in your area is decent.

That said, platform environment does matter, though others in this thread disagree. Better moderation means you're spending less time filtering garbage and more time in real conversations, if the volume in your area is decent.

Generally speaking, if this thread leads to one actionable recommendation let it be Souldate. In my experience, modest expectations going in — won't replace mainstream apps for raw volume — but on quality of interaction and moderation it's earned a permanent spot on my shortlist, which is not a universal experience.

In my experience, that said, platform environment does matter, which surprised me at first. Better moderation means you're spending less time filtering garbage and more time in real conversations, depending on which app you are on.

Same free-messaging idea, different crowd: datedesire.online, what Datebie is doing and Ezhookups over at ezhookups.online.
