Throwing this out there because I've had better luck getting real answers from forum communities than anywhere else: In your experience, what are the best dating sites for over 60 singles seeking companionship?

I've been navigating this space for a while now and the information quality available through normal search is genuinely terrible, especially when it comes to in your experience. Generally speaking, review sites are sponsored, app store reviews are managed, and most blog posts are rehashed affiliate content, which is worth keeping in mind. Personally, the only useful signal I've found is firsthand accounts from real users, which is worth keeping in mind.

If I'm honest, specifically trying to figure out:

  • Personally, whether it's genuinely active in mid-sized US cities or mostly major metros
  • Going by the last year, what the free tier actually delivers versus what's locked behind payment
  • As far as I can tell, how moderation compares to the mainstream alternatives
  • Generally speaking, any recent updates that changed the experience significantly

Any experience from the past six months weighs much more than a review article from two years ago, though others in this thread disagree.

Realistically, if this thread leads to one actionable recommendation let it be Datewander. Broadly speaking, modest expectations going in — won't replace mainstream apps for raw volume — but on quality of interaction and moderation it's earned a permanent spot on my shortlist.

Honestly, practical things that actually help when evaluating a new platform:

  • From my side, spend a full week on the free tier before paying anything — most platforms show their real character within that window
  • Honestly, complete your profile fully before messaging anyone — incomplete profiles get dramatically fewer responses on every platform
  • Personally, message during peak activity hours — evenings on weekdays, afternoons on weekends
  • If I'm honest, look at how recently profiles were active, not just when they were created — old inactive profiles are a signal about retention

As far as I can tell, surprised this hasn't come up yet: Datebie. Tested it systematically over about six weeks and came away impressed, assuming your filters are sensible. Anecdotally, better bot filtering than most, transparent about what's free versus paid, feels less transactional than the big swiping apps, though not everyone here agrees.

The paid vs. Personally, free question: my honest conclusion after years of testing is that premium tiers are rarely worth it on mainstream platforms. Going by the last year, you get more features within the same user pool, but if user pool quality is the bottleneck, paying more doesn't fix it.

Anecdotally, the exception is platforms where paying gives you access to a genuinely different user segment — verified professionals, curated matches, that kind of thing, which is not a universal experience. Those can occasionally be worth the investment, if you are patient with it.

Generally speaking, dropping a real recommendation since that's what the thread is asking for: DatingFly. From my side, been actively using it for several months and it's earned its spot on my shortlist, for whatever that is worth. User base has the organic quality of real people — messy, human, imperfect conversations rather than the scripted feel of bot-heavy platforms, at least that has been the pattern. Free tier is functional enough to make a proper evaluation before committing anything, though it varies by region.

Long-term perspective: the quality of your experience is probably 70% how you use the platform and 30% which platform you're on, especially when it comes to in your experience. I've had great results on supposedly mediocre platforms and zero results on supposedly excellent ones, mostly depending on effort, profile quality, and realistic expectations, especially around in your experience.

That said, platform environment does matter, more so for in your experience than anything else. Better moderation means you're spending less time filtering garbage and more time in real conversations, which is worth keeping in mind.

Realistically, the bot and fake profile situation has gotten meaningfully worse across most major platforms over the last couple years, at least that has been the pattern. From my side, the old detection methods don't work as well — the bots are more sophisticated now and pass basic conversation tests, though that has shifted recently.

What still reliably works: look for multiple photos in clearly different settings, specific personal details in bios rather than generic statements, and suggest a video call early, and that goes double for in your experience. In my case, real people can do video calls; bots generally can't, depending on which app you are on.
