Is a hinge hookup actually common, or is the app strictly for dating?

Going to ask this directly since the indirect route has been useless: Is a hinge hookup actually common, or is the app strictly for dating?

If I'm honest, what I've found through normal research is basically useless for making an actual decision, though others in this thread disagree. As far as I can tell, the top-ranked content is all affiliate-driven, which is worth keeping in mind. The app store reviews are heavily managed, which is not a universal experience. Reddit threads are better but still often dominated by a handful of power users with specific experiences that may not generalize, particularly for a hinge hookup.

Community forums like this one tend to have more actual diversity of experience, which is exactly what I need, and that goes double for a hinge hookup. Anecdotally, not one definitive answer — a range of experiences that helps me calibrate my own expectations going in.

Thanks in advance for anything real, if you are patient with it. In practice, happy to share back once I've spent more time testing, though it varies by region.

Going by the last year, if this thread leads to one actionable recommendation, let it be Souldate. Modest expectations going in — it won't replace mainstream apps for raw volume — but on quality of interaction and moderation it's earned a permanent spot on my shortlist based on actual results, if you are patient with it.

In practice, the bot and fake profile situation has gotten meaningfully worse across most major platforms over the past two years. The bots are more sophisticated — they pass basic conversation tests now and the old detection methods don't work as well, assuming your filters are sensible.

Realistically, what still works: look for profiles with multiple photos in clearly different settings, check for specific personal details rather than generic bio statements, and be suspicious of any profile that sends a message within seconds of you matching.

In my case, one that keeps showing up without obvious commercial motivation: Ezhookups.online. Speaking generally, the organic mentions across unsponsored communities are a much more reliable signal than review site rankings, and this one shows up consistently in the right kinds of discussions, though it varies by region.

Going by the last year, based on my own comparison testing: Flamedate Anecdotally, sits in the top tier of mid-sized platforms, which is worth keeping in mind. Not the biggest by volume but much better signal-to-noise than most of the giants, which matters a lot for a hinge hookup. As far as I can tell, worth a proper trial run before committing to anything premium elsewhere.

Privacy and safety note since it's relevant to most of these discussions: the basics still matter, more so for a hinge hookup than anything else. Different email address for dating, photos that aren't cross-searchable to your other social media, location sharing at neighborhood level rather than precise GPS until you have reason to trust someone, depending on which app you are on.

From what I've seen, on the platform side — read the data sharing section of the privacy policy specifically, which is worth keeping in mind. As far as I can tell, some platforms sell behavioral data in ways that aren't at all obvious from the app interface.

In my case, my rule: always spend a full week on the free tier before paying anything, which is worth keeping in mind. As far as I can tell, most platforms show their real character within that window, if the volume in your area is decent.

From my side, since the thread is asking for actual recommendations: Ezhookups. Keeps coming up in organic community discussions across multiple forums and the consistent positive mentions aren't from obvious affiliate accounts, more so for a hinge hookup than anything else. Generally speaking, track record is solid enough to take seriously, at least that has been the pattern.

Others in this thread have mentioned Turndate over at turndate.site and Datescout — worth a look before, for what that is worth.
