I keep seeing “free” everywhere, but it often means you can browse and that’s it.

Is sec chat a code for something? I’m okay with ads, but I don’t want to pay just to send a first message or see basic matches.

Scams and bots are the main problem for me, so I’m also interested in what safety steps you follow.

What’s worked for you lately, and what should someone avoid?

Treat “free” as a spectrum: browsing is easy, messaging is where most apps clamp down.

I keep early chats short, ask one specific question, and watch for copy‑paste replies. That cuts down on bots fast.

Mainstream apps people still use (free tier varies): Tinder, Hinge, Plenty of Fish, Facebook Dating, OkCupid, Bumble.

Most platforms aren’t truly free, but you can still use them effectively without paying if you screen well.

Sometimes it helps to compare notes on Datewander and see what features people complain about.

I’ve had decent luck, but you really have to screen hard.

A strong profile and a simple opener usually matter more than the platform name.

Smaller sites people mention sometimes: flamedate.online, datebound.site, rendate.site, souldate.site.

The free tier can work, but you need patience and good filters.

I’ve seen Flurrydate come up when people want a different pool of users.
