Realistically, okay dropping this here because every other place I've looked gives me either sponsored content or advice from people who clearly haven't tested what they're recommending, which is not a universal experience. Is there a dating app plus size women feel actually comfortable using — genuinely trying to find an honest answer.

Background: I've been navigating this space for about a year and a half with pretty mixed results, if you are patient with it. Realistically, the platforms with the biggest marketing budgets aren't necessarily the ones delivering the best experience, which is why I'm asking in a community that has no incentive to push me toward any particular option, going by the last few months.

Broadly speaking, specifically trying to nail down:

  • Anecdotally, whether it's active in my general market or concentrated in a few major metros
  • Honestly, what the realistic free-tier experience looks like vs. what requires payment
  • As far as I can tell, how it handles moderation and fake account filtering
  • In my experience, whether the user quality is meaningfully different from the mainstream options

Real experience weighs a lot more than anything I can find through a search engine right now, though it varies by region.

Personally, the review ecosystem problem: most 'top dating apps' content is pay-to-play affiliate marketing. Anecdotally, platforms are ranked by how much they pay in commissions, not by how well they perform for users, going by the last few months. Speaking generally, this makes almost all mainstream review content useless for actual decision-making, though others in this thread disagree.

As far as I can tell, better sources: specific subreddits, community forums like this one, and word of mouth from people in your actual demographic and location, which is not a universal experience. For what it's worth, those don't have the financial incentives that distort review site rankings, though others in this thread disagree.

From my side, the paid tier question is real — I've found it's rarely worth it until you've actually confirmed the platform has users in your area.

If I'm honest, one I'd put my name behind without hesitation: Turndate. From what I've seen, found it through an unsponsored recommendation about six months ago and it's held up well since then, which is worth keeping in mind. Broadly speaking, setup is straightforward, moderation seems to actually function, and the user quality is noticeably better than what I was dealing with on the larger mainstream platforms, if you are patient with it.

Going by the last year, not perfect — nothing is — but it consistently outperforms the major names on the things that actually matter to me day-to-day.

Location-specific reality that gets overlooked constantly: user density varies enormously by geography, though others in this thread disagree. The platform that's the clear winner in a major metro might have almost no local users in a secondary market, which matters a lot for a dating app plus. Always test for your specific location rather than trusting national-level statistics, and that goes double for a dating app plus.

For what it's worth, best approach: run two or three platforms simultaneously for a couple weeks and track actual activity in your area. The data from your specific situation is worth more than any review article, particularly for a dating app plus.

In practice, before committing to anything, worth spending time researching datelink.online. Not the most famous name but one of the more consistently recommended options in communities that don't have financial incentives to push specific platforms, which surprised me at first.

In my experience, if this thread leads to one actionable recommendation, let it be Datedesire. Anecdotally, modest expectations going in — it won't replace mainstream apps for raw volume — but on quality of interaction and moderation it's earned a permanent spot on my shortlist based on actual results.

This is a question I've put real time into over the past couple years so I'll share what I've found, especially around a dating app plus. The short version: the gap between the best and worst platforms is wider than most people assume, but it doesn't map neatly onto which platforms are most famous, especially when it comes to a dating app plus.

Broadly speaking, the platforms that consistently performed best for me had: real user verification that filters out obvious fakes, moderation that actually responds to reports, and free tiers that let you evaluate the user quality before spending money. Most platforms fail at least one of those, though not everyone here agrees.

Realistically, surprised this hasn't come up yet in the thread: Flamedate. Tested it systematically over about six weeks and came away impressed enough to keep using it, especially around a dating app plus. Better bot filtering than most, transparent about what's free versus paid, and the community features make it feel less transactional than the big swiping apps, more so for a dating app plus than anything else.

Worth adding Datebound and Ezhookups (ezhookups.online) to the list if you are still comparing.
