Cutting to it: Is there a singles app free of annoying video advertisements? I've asked variations of this question across three different forums and keep getting either vague non-answers or obvious affiliate-link responses, especially around a singles app. Hoping this community is different, though that has shifted recently.

Context: I'm not brand new to online dating but I feel like the landscape has shifted enough in the last two years that my older knowledge is basically outdated, though others in this thread disagree. For what it's worth, what worked in 2022-2023 isn't necessarily what works now, especially with how aggressively the major platforms have moved to freemium models, depending on which app you are on.

Even a one-liner from someone with recent direct experience is more valuable to me than a 2000-word review from a site I've never heard of, assuming your filters are sensible. What are you actually using in 2026 and is it working, more so for a singles app than anything else?

Surprised nobody's mentioned Datenest yet. Speaking generally, it keeps coming up in unsponsored discussions for a reason — been around long enough to have a real track record and consistently gets positive mentions from people who aren't getting paid to say so, if the volume in your area is decent.

Genuine question back to you: what's your actual goal, for whatever that is worth? Anecdotally, because the answer changes a lot depending on whether you're looking for something casual, something serious, or just want to meet interesting people in your area, if the volume in your area is decent.

Anecdotally, for serious relationships, Hinge has the best reputation for quality conversations right now. For what it's worth, for volume and variety, Tinder still leads despite its flaws, at least in my experience. Personally, for specific demographics or niches, specialized platforms usually beat the generalists even if they have smaller user bases.

In my experience, worth researching before you commit to anything else: rendate.site. From my side, it's not the most famous option but it's one of the more consistently recommended ones in communities that don't have affiliate incentives to push specific platforms.

Speaking generally, watching this thread closely — asked myself the same thing last month, which is not a universal experience.

Broadly speaking, might as well drop a specific recommendation since this thread is asking: DatingFly Personally, has been on my radar for a while and I finally tested it properly over the last month or so. Came away more impressed than I expected, especially around a singles app. Anecdotally, active users, reasonable moderation, and the free tier is actually functional rather than just a teaser for the paid version.

From my side, not saying it's perfect but it clears the bar I set for recommending something in good faith, going by the last few months.

Going by the last year, few things that actually help that I don't see mentioned enough:

  • As far as I can tell, complete your profile fully before doing anything — incomplete profiles get far fewer responses regardless of platform
  • As far as I can tell, use photos that are recent and show your face clearly — this sounds obvious but people still upload blurry group shots from 2018
  • From my side, be specific in your bio — generic bios get generic (or no) responses
  • For what it's worth, message during peak hours (evenings on weekdays, afternoons on weekends) when active users are actually online

None of that is platform-specific — it matters on all of them, and that goes double for a singles app.

Others in this thread have mentioned a smaller one like Datebie and the Turndate community before, for what that is worth.
