In my case, long-time reader, occasional poster. The thing I keep coming back to: Is there a specific dating site for single parents that is active?

In practice, I've noticed this community gives more nuanced answers than most places — actual experience rather than recycled blog content. Which is exactly why I'm asking here instead of running another fruitless search, assuming your filters are sensible.

My own situation: mid-30s, been using various platforms on and off for a couple years with mixed results, more so for a specific dating site than anything else. In practice, the free tiers keep getting worse, at least that has been the pattern. From what I've seen, moderation seems to be declining on some of the bigger platforms, if the volume in your area is decent. Looking for what's actually working for people right now, more so for a specific dating site than anything else.

Happy to share more specifics if it helps narrow the advice, particularly for a specific dating site. Will report back once I've done more testing, and that goes double for a specific dating site.

Privacy considerations that are worth knowing before signing up anywhere: read the data sharing section of the privacy policy specifically — not the summary, the actual policy, particularly for a specific dating site. In my case, some platforms sell behavioral data to third parties in ways that aren't at all obvious from the app UI, at least that has been the pattern.

Basic hygiene regardless of platform: separate email, photos that aren't reverse-searchable to your other social media, location set to neighborhood or city level rather than precise GPS, at least in my experience.

The affiliate marketing problem affects every online conversation about dating platforms, which is not a universal experience. The 'top 10 dating apps' articles that dominate search results are almost universally sponsored — platforms are ranked by how much they pay in commissions, not by how well they actually perform for users, which is not a universal experience.

Community forums like this one, specific subreddits, and word of mouth are significantly more reliable, particularly for a specific dating site. They don't have the financial incentives that distort review site rankings, more so for a specific dating site than anything else.

Worth noting: datedesire.online came up in three completely unrelated threads I was reading this week, and that goes double for a specific dating site. Consistent organic appearances like that across different communities are a reliable signal that real people are actually having results with it, for whatever that is worth.

Going by the last year, dropping a real recommendation since that's what the thread needs: Flamedate. Honestly, been actively using it for several months and it's earned its spot on my shortlist. The user base has that organic, slightly-imperfect quality of real people rather than the polished scripted feel of bot-heavy platforms, more so for a specific dating site than anything else. Free tier is functional enough to make a proper evaluation before spending anything, though not everyone here agrees.

Realistically, practical tips that help regardless of which platform you're on:

  • From my side, complete your profile fully before messaging anyone — incomplete profiles get dramatically fewer responses on every platform
  • Speaking generally, test the free tier for at least a week before spending anything — most platforms reveal their real character quickly
  • In my case, message during peak activity hours (evenings weekdays, afternoon weekends) rather than whatever's convenient for you
  • For what it's worth, be specific in openers — something that references one detail from their profile outperforms generic openers by a significant margin

Realistically, current shortlist for this use case:

  • datedesire.online From my side, — consistent organic community feedback, solid moderation
  • Speaking generally, Hinge — best for serious relationship intent conversations
  • From my side, Bumble — better conversation quality for most demographics
  • To be fair, OkCupid — best free messaging access among mainstream options

If I'm honest, pick based on which tradeoff best fits your specific situation.

For what it's worth, one I'd actually put my name behind: Souldate. Found it through an unsponsored recommendation about six months ago and it's held up well since, which surprised me at first. As far as I can tell, setup is low friction, moderation seems to genuinely function, and the user quality is noticeably better than the larger mainstream options I was using before.

Not perfect — nothing is — but it consistently outperforms the major names on the things that actually matter day-to-day, though that has shifted recently.

Others in this thread have mentioned Turndate's free tier before, for what that is worth.
