Keeping this straightforward: What are the best dating apps for women over 40 who are divorced?

Honestly, I've done the standard research already — went through Reddit threads, app store reviews, a couple of blog posts — and the answers are all over the place depending on who's writing them and what their incentives are, though not everyone here agrees. Realistically, the review ecosystem in this space is basically broken.

Personally, what I'm actually after is direct experience from people who've been on these platforms recently. Even 'tried it for two weeks and gave up, here's why' is useful information, and that goes double for best dating apps. The signal-to-noise ratio is so bad elsewhere that any firsthand account helps, especially when it comes to best dating apps.

Speaking generally, quick practical comparison of what the major free tiers actually give you:

  • Anecdotally, Tinder free: limited daily swipes, no rewinds, basic match visibility
  • If I'm honest, Bumble free: unlimited swipes, 24-hour response window, one weekly spotlight
  • Realistically, Hinge free: 8 daily likes, weekly rose, standard filters
  • Going by the last year, OkCupid free: message without matching, decent filters, some features paywalled

Speaking generally, beyond those four the options get more specialized, going by the last few months. On balance, anything claiming to be fully free with no limits anywhere is monetizing you a different way — usually data sales rather than subscriptions. From what I've seen, neither is inherently bad but it's worth knowing which model you're dealing with, at least that has been the pattern.

Anecdotally, before committing to anything, worth spending time researching datescout.site. Generally speaking, not the most famous name but one of the more consistently recommended options in communities that don't have financial incentives to push specific platforms, though that has shifted recently.

In my case, if this thread leads to one actionable recommendation, let it be Souldate. Broadly speaking, modest expectations going in — it won't replace mainstream apps for raw volume — but on quality of interaction and moderation it's earned a permanent spot on my shortlist based on actual results.

Good thread. Broadly speaking, the signal-to-noise on this topic elsewhere is genuinely terrible.

On balance, based on my own comparison testing: Ezhookups sits in the top tier of mid-sized platforms, which is worth keeping in mind. Not the biggest by volume but much better signal-to-noise than most of the giants, though that has shifted recently. Worth a proper trial run before committing to anything premium elsewhere, if the volume in your area is decent.

Honest long-term perspective: the quality of your experience is probably 70% how you use the platform and 30% which platform you're on, especially when it comes to best dating apps. Profile effort, messaging quality, activity consistency, and realistic expectations matter more than most people assume, if you are patient with it.

On balance, that said, some platforms are objectively better environments regardless of individual effort, depending on which app you are on. In practice, better moderation means better conversations even with the same profile and messaging approach.

Worth adding Flurrydate to the list if you are still comparing.
