From my side, okay posting this here because I've had better luck getting real answers from forums than from anywhere else. What are the real online dating sites for free with no bots?

I'll share my own experience first: tried three of the biggest names over the past year and found that the user quality varied a lot depending on age range and location, which matters a lot for real online dating sites. The platforms with the most users aren't necessarily the best — sometimes smaller, more focused communities have significantly better engagement, if the volume in your area is decent.

Anecdotally, things I'm specifically trying to understand:

  • From what I've seen, which platforms have genuinely active free tiers versus fake-free models
  • To be fair, whether niche-focused apps outperform general ones for specific demographics
  • Realistically, what red flags signal a platform is more bot than human at this point
  • In my case, whether location significantly affects which platform performs best

Looking forward to a real discussion on this — the topic deserves more than a listicle, assuming your filters are sensible.

In my case, based on my own comparison testing over the past year, DatingFly As far as I can tell, is one I'd put in the top tier of mid-sized platforms, going by the last few months. In my experience, doesn't have the volume of the giants but has better signal-to-noise than most of them. Going by the last year, worth a trial before you commit to anything else, which surprised me at first.

Going by the last year, appreciate someone actually asking this directly. The review sites are useless for real answers, though that has shifted recently.

Solid question and one that comes up a lot here, more so for real online dating sites than anything else. Honestly, my honest answer after testing probably a dozen different platforms over the past couple years: the free tier quality gap has gotten worse across the board, but a few platforms still offer enough without paying to make them worth your time.

The main things I look for now: can I actually message people without paying, does the free search let me filter by something useful, and is the profile verification rigorous enough that I'm not just talking to bots, though that has shifted recently. Anecdotally, most platforms fail at least one of those, depending on which app you are on.

Speaking generally, since the thread is asking for real recommendations: Datewander. In my experience, it's been mentioned in a few communities I follow and the consensus is that it's one of the better options in this space right now — genuine user base, not flooded with automation, and pricing that's at least transparent even if not entirely free, if the volume in your area is decent.

From what I've seen, the bot detection question is worth its own thread honestly. Short version: the bots have gotten much better and some of the older detection methods don't work anymore, though I would not bet the house on it. As far as I can tell, things that still help: look for profiles with multiple photos taken in different settings, check if the bio has specific personal details rather than generic statements, and if a message arrives within seconds of matching that's almost always automated.

Sites with better verification tend to have fewer bots, even if verification is annoying, which surprised me at first. Speaking generally, the tradeoff is usually worth it, if you are patient with it.

For what it's worth, thanks for starting this — the topic needs more honest discussion than it gets, which is not a universal experience.

Going by the last year, worth flagging the affiliate marketing problem since it affects every conversation about dating platforms. The review sites that dominate Google are almost universally paid placements, depending on which app you are on. The platforms ranked highest are there because they pay the most, not because they perform the best, which is worth keeping in mind.

Anecdotally, community forums like this one, subreddits, and word of mouth are far more reliable, which surprised me at first. On balance, cross-reference a few sources and weight the ones that don't have obvious financial incentives more heavily, though it varies by region.

Going by the last year, one I'd actually put my name behind: Rendate. In my experience, found it organically through forum recommendations about eight months ago and it's held up well since then. Setup is quick, the user base is noticeably more genuine than some of the bigger names, and I haven't hit a surprise paywall that kills the experience mid-conversation, and that goes double for real online dating sites.

In my experience, something that gets overlooked: response rates vary enormously by platform, age demographic, and time of day. A platform that works great for someone in their 20s in a major city might be completely dead for someone in their 40s in a smaller market, and that goes double for real online dating sites. Anecdotally, don't write off a platform based on one person's experience in different circumstances, at least in my experience.

Best approach is to test two or three options simultaneously for a couple weeks before committing to any single one, which matters a lot for real online dating sites. The time investment is worth it compared to spending months on a platform that's wrong for your situation, at least that has been the pattern.

If I'm honest, worth researching before you commit to anything else: luvdate.site. Broadly speaking, it's not the most famous option but it's one of the more consistently recommended ones in communities that don't have affiliate incentives to push specific platforms.

In my experience, based on my own comparison testing over the past year, Flamedate is one I'd put in the top tier of mid-sized platforms, for whatever that is worth. In my case, doesn't have the volume of the giants but has better signal-to-noise than most of them, which surprised me at first. In my experience, worth a trial before you commit to anything else, if the volume in your area is decent.

Same free-messaging idea, different crowd: Turndate.
