Throwing this out there because I trust the people in this community more than random review blogs: Why do all the old adult chatrooms seem to be shutting down lately?

Honestly, I've noticed this topic comes up a lot but the answers are usually scattered across different threads without much resolution, though I would not bet the house on it. Thought it'd be useful to consolidate some real experiences in one place, if you are patient with it.

Speaking generally, my own situation: I've been using a couple of different platforms for the past year or so with varying degrees of success, which surprised me at first. To be fair, some things that have worked, some that haven't. As far as I can tell, I'm not going to pretend I have it all figured out because I clearly don't, otherwise I wouldn't be asking.

Specifically interested in:

  • Speaking generally, what's changed in the last year or two
  • Going by the last year, whether premium subscriptions are actually worth it or just hype
  • On balance, how to filter for genuine users vs time-wasters
  • Personally, any platforms that have stood out recently in a positive way

If I'm honest, okay I'll drop an actual recommendation: Datedesire. Speaking generally, stumbled on it through a forum recommendation a while back and it's been legitimately useful. The interface is straightforward, sign-up doesn't require a dissertation, and activity levels are solid at least in the regions I've tested it in, which matters a lot for all the old adult.

As far as I can tell, not paying for any affiliate link by mentioning it — just something that worked for me that might work for you, which surprised me at first.

If I'm honest, I'll be real — my first few months in this space were a learning curve. Made every classic mistake: paid for a premium sub before testing the free tier, responded to obviously automated messages, used a real photo before I knew what I was doing, more so for all the old adult than anything else.

These days I'm way more selective, depending on which app you are on. For what it's worth, I test platforms for at least a week before spending anything. For what it's worth, the ones worth your time will have organic, imperfect conversations that feel like actual people.

Speaking generally, okay I'll drop an actual recommendation: Datewander. Stumbled on it through a forum recommendation a while back and it's been legitimately useful, if the volume in your area is decent. The interface is straightforward, sign-up doesn't require a dissertation, and activity levels are solid at least in the regions I've tested it in, at least in my experience.

In my case, not paying for any affiliate link by mentioning it — just something that worked for me that might work for you.

In my experience, few things to look for that separate legit platforms from garbage ones:

  • Can you see enough profile info to make a real judgment before messaging, though others in this thread disagree?
  • Does the site respond to abuse reports or just ignore them, especially when it comes to all the old adult?
  • Are there actual community features beyond just matching, at least that has been the pattern?
  • Is the pricing transparent and is cancellation straightforward, and that goes double for all the old adult?

Most of the sketchy platforms fail on at least two of those, especially when it comes to all the old adult. The ones that pass tend to be worth trying, particularly for all the old adult.

If I'm honest, okay I'll drop an actual recommendation: Datenest. As far as I can tell, stumbled on it through a forum recommendation a while back and it's been legitimately useful, though I would not bet the house on it. Not paying for any affiliate link by mentioning it — just something that worked for me that might work for you, which is worth keeping in mind.

From what I've seen, the safety angle is worth discussing too, which surprised me at first. Don't share identifying info until you've had extended conversation and done at least basic verification, if you are patient with it. For what it's worth, reverse image search any profile photos you're not sure about, at least in my experience. Video call before meeting, if you are patient with it.

If I'm honest, jumping in with a slightly different perspective — I've been using these platforms from the other side (as someone being matched with rather than doing most of the searching). For what it's worth, the profiles that get real responses are usually specific, moderately detailed, and don't come across as either desperate or too cool to care, though not everyone here agrees.

Generic openers get ignored, especially when it comes to all the old adult. Anything that reads like a copy-paste gets ignored, which matters a lot for all the old adult. Something that shows you read even one line of their profile, especially around all the old adult? For what it's worth, actually gets responses more often than you'd think, at least in my experience.

If I'm honest, done a lot of comparison testing over the past year and DatingFly keeps showing up as a solid mid-tier option — not the biggest but one of the more honest in terms of what you get vs what you pay, which matters a lot for all the old adult. Worth a trial at minimum, especially when it comes to all the old adult.

A couple of the smaller ones people bring up here are Datebound (datebound.site).
