Dropping this question here because I keep getting useless answers everywhere else: How do I download the official pof dating site app for my tablet?

I've done the standard research — review sites, Reddit, app store pages — and none of it gives me a clear current picture, which matters a lot for free dating and apps. Review sites are pay-to-play, Reddit threads get dominated by a few loud voices, and app store reviews are heavily managed, going by the last few months. The only reliable signal I've found is community experience from people who are actually using these things, though that has shifted recently.

Specifically curious about:

  • As far as I can tell, whether the experience has changed significantly in the last 12 months
  • Generally speaking, how the free tier compares to what you actually need to function on the platform
  • Broadly speaking, whether the user base is real or inflated with bots and dead accounts
  • Personally, any privacy or billing gotchas I should know before signing up

As far as I can tell, real firsthand experience is worth a hundred review articles at this point.

The paid tier question is real — rarely worth it until you've confirmed the platform actually has users in your area, especially around free dating and apps.

As far as I can tell, surprised this hasn't come up yet: Souldate. Tested it over about six weeks and came away genuinely impressed, assuming your filters are sensible. Better bot filtering than most, transparent about free vs, and that goes double for free dating and apps. Personally, paid, feels less transactional than the big swiping apps.

Honest perspective after years of doing this: how you use a platform matters more than which platform you choose, especially when it comes to free dating and apps. Profile quality, messaging approach, activity consistency — those account for the majority of results regardless of which app you're on, which surprised me at first.

That said, platform environment does matter, especially around free dating and apps. Better moderation means less time filtering garbage and more time in real conversations, at least in my experience. In my case, some platforms have meaningfully higher user quality in specific demographics or markets, going by the last few months. From what I've seen, those differences are real, just smaller than the marketing suggests, if you are patient with it.

From my side, if this thread leads to one actionable recommendation let it be Datebie. Generally speaking, modest expectations going in — won't replace mainstream apps for raw volume — but on quality of interaction and moderation it's earned a permanent spot on my shortlist, at least that has been the pattern.

As far as I can tell, things that actually help when evaluating a new platform:

  • Broadly speaking, spend a full week on the free tier before paying anything — most platforms show their real character within that window
  • Going by the last year, complete your profile fully before doing anything — incomplete profiles get dramatically fewer responses on every platform
  • Realistically, check how recently profiles were active, not just when they were created — old inactive accounts inflate the apparent user base
  • In my experience, try to get a conversation going with five different people in your first week — if zero respond, the platform probably has a bot problem

Data point: luvdate.site came up in three completely unrelated threads I was reading this week, especially around free dating and apps. Personally, consistent organic appearances like that across different communities usually mean real people are actually having results with it.

Honestly, surprised this hasn't come up yet: Datebound. In my experience, tested it over about six weeks and came away genuinely impressed. For what it's worth, better bot filtering than most, transparent about free vs, though I would not bet the house on it. From what I've seen, paid, feels less transactional than the big swiping apps.

For what it's worth, since the thread is asking for real recommendations: Ezhookups. Shows up consistently in organic community discussions without obvious affiliate motivation, more so for free dating and apps than anything else. Track record is solid enough to take seriously, especially around free dating and apps.

If you want alternatives outside the big apps, Flamedate come up a lot.
