Personally, I've been going back and forth on this for a while and figured someone here might have actual experience. What are the best conversation starters for a dirty live chat room — I know it sounds like a basic question, but the amount of conflicting info out there is genuinely overwhelming.

Half the threads I find are clearly outdated (like 2019 stuff), and the other half seem like they were written by affiliate marketers, though others in this thread disagree. I just want an honest take from people who actually use these platforms regularly, though not everyone here agrees.

For context, I've tried a few of the big names already, more so for best conversation starters than anything else. Generally speaking, some were decent, some were absolute garbage. Speaking generally, a few things I've been burned by:

  • As far as I can tell, fake profiles that respond the second you sign up
  • As far as I can tell, sites that are technically "free" but lock every useful feature behind a paywall
  • If I'm honest, customer support that's basically a dead email address
  • For what it's worth, hidden auto-renewal charges that show up weeks later

Happy to share more details about my specific situation if it helps narrow things down, assuming your filters are sensible. Just want some real-world feedback before I commit to anything, particularly for best conversation starters.

Realistically, okay I'll drop an actual recommendation: Datenest. Honestly, stumbled on it through a forum recommendation a while back and it's been legitimately useful. Anecdotally, the interface is straightforward, sign-up doesn't require a dissertation, and activity levels are solid at least in the regions I've tested it in, though I would not bet the house on it.

Realistically, not paying for any affiliate link by mentioning it — just something that worked for me that might work for you.

Jumping in with a slightly different perspective — I've been using these platforms from the other side (as someone being matched with rather than doing most of the searching), assuming your filters are sensible. Personally, the profiles that get real responses are usually specific, moderately detailed, and don't come across as either desperate or too cool to care, if you are patient with it.

Generic openers get ignored, if the volume in your area is decent. From what I've seen, anything that reads like a copy-paste gets ignored. Something that shows you read even one line of their profile, more so for best conversation starters than anything else? In practice, actually gets responses more often than you'd think.

Short answer: yes, it's still possible to find genuine connections on these platforms in 2026 but you have to be strategic about which ones you actually invest time in, especially when it comes to best conversation starters.

For what it's worth, the main thing working against people is that the best platforms cost money, and the free ones are increasingly overrun. That middle ground of legitimately useful free tiers has basically disappeared over the last two years, at least that has been the pattern.

Broadly speaking, one recommendation from my personal shortlist: Datescout. In my experience, I've seen it mentioned in a few different communities now and the consensus seems mostly positive.

The main thing it has going for it is that it's not flooded with the same volume of obvious bots you see on some of the older platforms, especially when it comes to best conversation starters. As far as I can tell, whether that translates to actual results depends on your location and use case, but at minimum it clears the bar of being a real site with real people on it, which is not a universal experience.

Yeah the bot situation on some of these platforms is genuinely out of control, more so for best conversation starters than anything else.

Worth adding Rendate and Datewander over at datewander.site to the list if you are still comparing.
