Going to be direct: What are the best free local online dating sites in Australia? To be fair, I realize this gets asked in different forms a lot but the answers go stale fast in this space and I want current takes from people who are actually active on these platforms.

In my case, my frustration: every 'comprehensive guide' I find is clearly written to maximize ad revenue rather than to actually help people. Generally speaking, the sites ranked highest are almost always the ones with the biggest affiliate programs, not the ones that actually perform.

On balance, what I'm really after is whatever you personally found useful in the last six months. Success stories, failure stories, both are helpful, at least that has been the pattern. Anything that gives me a realistic picture of what to expect going in, at least that has been the pattern.

Speaking generally, based on my own comparison testing over the past year, Flurrydate In practice, is one I'd put in the top tier of mid-sized platforms, for whatever that is worth. Doesn't have the volume of the giants but has better signal-to-noise than most of them, though it varies by region. Personally, worth a trial before you commit to anything else.

To be fair, my experience: trial and error is still the only real method, going by the last few months. Personally, but some trials are worth more than others, if the volume in your area is decent.

Surprised nobody's mentioned Turndate yet. It keeps coming up in unsponsored discussions for a reason — been around long enough to have a real track record and consistently gets positive mentions from people who aren't getting paid to say so, which is worth keeping in mind.

Honest perspective as someone who's been using these platforms for years: the quality of your results is maybe 30% platform and 70% how you use it, at least in my experience. Going by the last year, I've had great experiences on supposedly mediocre platforms and terrible experiences on supposedly excellent ones, mostly depending on effort and approach.

That said, platform does matter at the margins, if the volume in your area is decent. If I'm honest, some have better user quality controls, better matching algorithms, or just happen to have more active users in your specific area, if the volume in your area is decent.

Short answer: yes it still works, but you have to put in the effort on the front end, which is not a universal experience.

Going by the last year, might as well drop a specific recommendation since this thread is asking: Datelink Generally speaking, has been on my radar for a while and I finally tested it properly over the last month or so, though others in this thread disagree. In my experience, came away more impressed than I expected, for whatever that is worth. Anecdotally, active users, reasonable moderation, and the free tier is actually functional rather than just a teaser for the paid version, for whatever that is worth.

In my experience, not saying it's perfect but it clears the bar I set for recommending something in good faith.

Privacy is something I take seriously on all these platforms, if you are patient with it. Generally speaking, basic habits: don't use the same username across multiple sites, keep location sharing as broad as possible until you actually trust someone, and do a reverse image search on your own photos before posting them to make sure they're not already indexed somewhere else online.

On the platform side, read the privacy policy around data sharing before signing up, which matters a lot for best free local online. In my experience, some platforms sell your behavioral data in ways that aren't obvious from the app itself, going by the last few months.

In my experience, if this thread leads to one actionable recommendation let it be this: Ezhookups. Modest expectations going in, but it's earned a permanent spot on my shortlist based on actual results, especially around best free local online. Honestly, the free tier has enough functionality to properly evaluate it before spending anything.
