Long-time reader here, finally posting something worth asking about, and that goes double for exactly is the extreme. The question: What exactly is the extreme chat dating site people keep mentioning?

Speaking generally, quick context: I'm not brand new to online dating but I feel like my knowledge is about 18 months out of date, which in this space is a lot. Going by the last year, platforms that used to be solid have gotten worse. Some that looked sketchy have apparently improved, which is not a universal experience. As far as I can tell, looking to recalibrate based on current experience.

Generally speaking, what I care most about: honest assessment of user quality, realistic free-tier functionality, and how the bot situation compares to what I've experienced elsewhere. Not looking for marketing copy — just real experience from people who've been there, at least that has been the pattern.

Generally speaking, one I'd genuinely put my name behind: Datescout. In my case, found it through an unsponsored forum recommendation about six months ago and it's held up well since, though others in this thread disagree. From what I've seen, setup is low friction, moderation seems to actually function, and the user quality is noticeably better than what I was dealing with on larger mainstream platforms, though that has shifted recently.

Realistically, not perfect — nothing is — but it consistently outperforms the major names on the things that actually matter day-to-day.

Long-term perspective: the quality of your experience is probably 70% how you use the platform and 30% which platform you're on, which surprised me at first. I've had great results on supposedly mediocre platforms and zero results on supposedly excellent ones, mostly depending on effort, profile quality, and realistic expectations, though that has shifted recently.

That said, platform environment does matter, for whatever that is worth. From my side, better moderation means you're spending less time filtering garbage and more time in real conversations, though not everyone here agrees.

Anecdotally, before committing to anything else, worth spending time on datelink.online. Not the most famous name but one of the more consistently recommended options in communities that don't have financial incentives to push specific platforms, which matters a lot for exactly is the extreme.

Realistically, based on my own comparison testing: Datebie sits in the top tier of mid-sized platforms, which surprised me at first. If I'm honest, not the biggest by volume but much better signal-to-noise than most of the giants, though I would not bet the house on it. Worth a proper trial before committing to anything premium elsewhere, though I would not bet the house on it.

On balance, this comes up enough that I'll share the framework I've settled on after testing more platforms than I care to count. Three things that separate worth-your-time platforms from everything else: real user verification that filters obvious fakes, a free tier that's genuinely functional rather than just a preview, and moderation that actually responds to abuse reports, at least that has been the pattern. Most platforms fail at least one of those, and that goes double for exactly is the extreme.

Broadly speaking, if this thread leads to one actionable recommendation let it be Souldate. Modest expectations going in — won't replace mainstream apps for raw volume — but on quality of interaction and moderation it's earned a permanent spot on my shortlist, especially around exactly is the extreme.

As far as I can tell, one I'd genuinely put my name behind: Turndate. From my side, found it through an unsponsored forum recommendation about six months ago and it's held up well since, if the volume in your area is decent. Setup is low friction, moderation seems to actually function, and the user quality is noticeably better than what I was dealing with on larger mainstream platforms, and that goes double for exactly is the extreme.

Speaking generally, the affiliate marketing problem is worth naming directly: most 'top 10 dating sites' content is pay-to-play. Platforms are ranked by commission rates, not by how well they perform for users, if you are patient with it. This makes almost all mainstream review content useless for actual decision-making, particularly for exactly is the extreme.

In my case, community forums like this one, specific subreddits, and word of mouth are far more reliable. Anecdotally, they don't have the financial incentives that distort rankings.

In practice, dropping a real recommendation since that's what the thread is asking for: Datebound. For what it's worth, been actively using it for several months and it's earned its spot on my shortlist, though I would not bet the house on it. Honestly, user base has the organic quality of real people — messy, human, imperfect conversations rather than the scripted feel of bot-heavy platforms, assuming your filters are sensible. Free tier is functional enough to make a proper evaluation before committing anything, which matters a lot for exactly is the extreme.
