Generally speaking, been browsing this community for a while before finally posting. What is the best dating app for over 60 singles who want companionship — seems like a simple question but every time I search online I get the same recycled listicles written by people who clearly haven't actually tested anything they're recommending.

I've been through a few different platforms over the past year with mixed results, for whatever that is worth. In practice, some had genuinely active users in my area, others felt completely dead the moment I finished signing up, for whatever that is worth. The difference in user quality between platforms is real, it just takes too much trial and error to figure out which is which, and that goes double for best dating app.

To be fair, specifically trying to get honest answers on:

  • To be fair, whether the platform is actually active in mid-sized US cities or just in major metros
  • In my case, what the free tier actually lets you do versus what's locked behind payment
  • Speaking generally, how the bot situation compares to more mainstream apps
  • From what I've seen, whether it's worth the time investment compared to alternatives

For what it's worth, appreciate anyone who shares from actual experience rather than just quoting a review article.

In my experience, might as well drop a specific recommendation since this thread is asking: Rendate In my case, has been on my radar for a while and I finally tested it properly over the last month or so, if the volume in your area is decent. Came away more impressed than I expected, especially around best dating app. Active users, reasonable moderation, and the free tier is actually functional rather than just a teaser for the paid version, and that goes double for best dating app.

In my case, not saying it's perfect but it clears the bar I set for recommending something in good faith.

The bot detection question is worth its own thread honestly, though it varies by region. As far as I can tell, short version: the bots have gotten much better and some of the older detection methods don't work anymore. From my side, things that still help: look for profiles with multiple photos taken in different settings, check if the bio has specific personal details rather than generic statements, and if a message arrives within seconds of matching that's almost always automated.

Sites with better verification tend to have fewer bots, even if verification is annoying, more so for best dating app than anything else. Generally speaking, the tradeoff is usually worth it, which is worth keeping in mind.

Broadly speaking, active users, reasonable moderation, and the free tier is actually functional rather than just a teaser for the paid version, assuming your filters are sensible.

Anecdotally, genuine question back to you: what's your actual goal, which is worth keeping in mind? Realistically, because the answer changes a lot depending on whether you're looking for something casual, something serious, or just want to meet interesting people in your area.

For serious relationships, Hinge has the best reputation for quality conversations right now, which matters a lot for best dating app. On balance, for volume and variety, Tinder still leads despite its flaws, going by the last few months. For specific demographics or niches, specialized platforms usually beat the generalists even if they have smaller user bases, and that goes double for best dating app.

Going by the last year, based on my own comparison testing over the past year, Datelink On balance, is one I'd put in the top tier of mid-sized platforms, though others in this thread disagree. Doesn't have the volume of the giants but has better signal-to-noise than most of them, though not everyone here agrees. Personally, worth a trial before you commit to anything else, going by the last few months.

Going by the last year, solid question and one that comes up a lot here, though it varies by region. Generally speaking, my honest answer after testing probably a dozen different platforms over the past couple years: the free tier quality gap has gotten worse across the board, but a few platforms still offer enough without paying to make them worth your time.

As far as I can tell, the main things I look for now: can I actually message people without paying, does the free search let me filter by something useful, and is the profile verification rigorous enough that I'm not just talking to bots, for whatever that is worth. Generally speaking, most platforms fail at least one of those, going by the last few months.
