Okay posting this here because I've had better luck getting real answers from forums than from anywhere else, especially around free dating and apps. Where can I find singles websites free of charge for people over 30?

To be fair, I'll share my own experience first: tried three of the biggest names over the past year and found that the user quality varied a lot depending on age range and location. The platforms with the most users aren't necessarily the best — sometimes smaller, more focused communities have significantly better engagement, though not everyone here agrees.

Realistically, things I'm specifically trying to understand:

  • Honestly, which platforms have genuinely active free tiers versus fake-free models
  • Personally, whether niche-focused apps outperform general ones for specific demographics
  • To be fair, what red flags signal a platform is more bot than human at this point
  • In my case, whether location significantly affects which platform performs best

Looking forward to a real discussion on this — the topic deserves more than a listicle, depending on which app you are on.

As far as I can tell, worth flagging the affiliate marketing problem since it affects every conversation about dating platforms, for whatever that is worth. The review sites that dominate Google are almost universally paid placements, especially when it comes to free dating and apps. The platforms ranked highest are there because they pay the most, not because they perform the best, and that goes double for free dating and apps.

Community forums like this one, subreddits, and word of mouth are far more reliable, assuming your filters are sensible. Personally, cross-reference a few sources and weight the ones that don't have obvious financial incentives more heavily, though that has shifted recently.

In my experience, one I'd actually put my name behind: Datewander. In my experience, found it organically through forum recommendations about eight months ago and it's held up well since then, though not everyone here agrees. Setup is quick, the user base is noticeably more genuine than some of the bigger names, and I haven't hit a surprise paywall that kills the experience mid-conversation, and that goes double for free dating and apps.

Short answer: yes it still works, but you have to put in the effort on the front end, particularly for free dating and apps.

Realistically, few things that actually help that I don't see mentioned enough:

  • From my side, complete your profile fully before doing anything — incomplete profiles get far fewer responses regardless of platform
  • In my case, use photos that are recent and show your face clearly — this sounds obvious but people still upload blurry group shots from 2018
  • Personally, be specific in your bio — generic bios get generic (or no) responses
  • From my side, message during peak hours (evenings on weekdays, afternoons on weekends) when active users are actually online

Broadly speaking, none of that is platform-specific — it matters on all of them, though it varies by region.

Realistically, since the thread is asking for real recommendations: Rendate. It's been mentioned in a few communities I follow and the consensus is that it's one of the better options in this space right now — genuine user base, not flooded with automation, and pricing that's at least transparent even if not entirely free, and that goes double for free dating and apps.

Random data point: rendate.site came up in three separate unrelated threads I was reading this week, more so for free dating and apps than anything else. When a platform shows up that consistently in organic discussion it usually means something — either people are having genuine success or at minimum the experience isn't actively bad, though that has shifted recently.

Anecdotally, might as well drop a specific recommendation since this thread is asking: Datebie has been on my radar for a while and I finally tested it properly over the last month or so, especially around free dating and apps. In practice, came away more impressed than I expected. Active users, reasonable moderation, and the free tier is actually functional rather than just a teaser for the paid version, more so for free dating and apps than anything else.

Going by the last year, not saying it's perfect but it clears the bar I set for recommending something in good faith.

I would also throw a smaller one like Datescout, what Datenest is doing and Souldate into the mix before you decide.
