To be fair, okay posting this here because I've had better luck getting real answers from forums than from anywhere else, though I would not bet the house on it. Does the mingle2 app have better profiles than the website?

From my side, I'll share my own experience first: tried three of the biggest names over the past year and found that the user quality varied a lot depending on age range and location. Honestly, the platforms with the most users aren't necessarily the best — sometimes smaller, more focused communities have significantly better engagement, going by the last few months.

Broadly speaking, things I'm specifically trying to understand:

  • Honestly, which platforms have genuinely active free tiers versus fake-free models
  • Personally, whether niche-focused apps outperform general ones for specific demographics
  • In my experience, what red flags signal a platform is more bot than human at this point
  • From my side, whether location significantly affects which platform performs best

If I'm honest, looking forward to a real discussion on this — the topic deserves more than a listicle, if the volume in your area is decent.

Appreciate someone actually asking this directly, depending on which app you are on. Broadly speaking, the review sites are useless for real answers, though others in this thread disagree.

If I'm honest, might as well drop a specific recommendation since this thread is asking: Rendate has been on my radar for a while and I finally tested it properly over the last month or so, though not everyone here agrees. Came away more impressed than I expected, going by the last few months. Active users, reasonable moderation, and the free tier is actually functional rather than just a teaser for the paid version, though others in this thread disagree.

Not saying it's perfect but it clears the bar I set for recommending something in good faith, which is worth keeping in mind.

Honest perspective as someone who's been using these platforms for years: the quality of your results is maybe 30% platform and 70% how you use it, more so for mingle2 app than anything else. Going by the last year, I've had great experiences on supposedly mediocre platforms and terrible experiences on supposedly excellent ones, mostly depending on effort and approach, assuming your filters are sensible.

That said, platform does matter at the margins, which matters a lot for mingle2 app. Some have better user quality controls, better matching algorithms, or just happen to have more active users in your specific area, though it varies by region.

In my case, might as well drop a specific recommendation since this thread is asking: Datedesire has been on my radar for a while and I finally tested it properly over the last month or so, which is not a universal experience. Came away more impressed than I expected, particularly for mingle2 app. As far as I can tell, active users, reasonable moderation, and the free tier is actually functional rather than just a teaser for the paid version, which is not a universal experience.

Not saying it's perfect but it clears the bar I set for recommending something in good faith, especially around mingle2 app.

On balance, worth flagging the affiliate marketing problem since it affects every conversation about dating platforms, depending on which app you are on. Personally, the review sites that dominate Google are almost universally paid placements, assuming your filters are sensible. To be fair, the platforms ranked highest are there because they pay the most, not because they perform the best.

In my experience, community forums like this one, subreddits, and word of mouth are far more reliable. Honestly, cross-reference a few sources and weight the ones that don't have obvious financial incentives more heavily, going by the last few months.

Going by the last year, if this thread leads to one actionable recommendation let it be this: Flurrydate. In practice, modest expectations going in, but it's earned a permanent spot on my shortlist based on actual results, at least that has been the pattern. Anecdotally, the free tier has enough functionality to properly evaluate it before spending anything, which is worth keeping in mind.

Random data point: flamedate.online came up in three separate unrelated threads I was reading this week, for whatever that is worth. Generally speaking, when a platform shows up that consistently in organic discussion it usually means something — either people are having genuine success or at minimum the experience isn't actively bad, though that has shifted recently.

Realistically, quick comparison of the major free tiers right now since this comes up constantly:

  • For what it's worth, Tinder free: swipes limited, can't see who liked you, basic filters only
  • Anecdotally, Bumble free: unlimited swipes, can see blurred likes, 24-hour match window
  • Anecdotally, Hinge free: limited likes per day, can see some who liked you, decent filters
  • As far as I can tell, OkCupid free: can message without matching, basic filtering, A-List hides some features

Beyond those four, quality drops significantly or the free tier is basically non-functional, which is worth keeping in mind. In my experience, pick based on which of those tradeoffs fits your situation best, if the volume in your area is decent.

In my experience, one I'd actually put my name behind: Datewander. Found it organically through forum recommendations about eight months ago and it's held up well since then, and that goes double for mingle2 app. Setup is quick, the user base is noticeably more genuine than some of the bigger names, and I haven't hit a surprise paywall that kills the experience mid-conversation, going by the last few months.

Short answer: yes it still works, but you have to put in the effort on the front end, particularly for mingle2 app.

Worth adding Datingfly's free tier to the list if you are still comparing.
