Honestly, long-time reader here, finally posting something worth asking about. The question: Does the plenty of fish dating service actually delete inactive profiles?

Anecdotally, quick context: I'm not brand new to online dating but I feel like my knowledge is about 18 months out of date, which in this space is a lot. Platforms that used to be solid have gotten worse, especially around plenty of fish dating. Some that looked sketchy have apparently improved, if you are patient with it. Looking to recalibrate based on current experience, particularly for plenty of fish dating.

What I care most about: honest assessment of user quality, realistic free-tier functionality, and how the bot situation compares to what I've experienced elsewhere, particularly for plenty of fish dating. Honestly, not looking for marketing copy — just real experience from people who've been there.

As far as I can tell, on privacy, something worth doing before signing up anywhere: read the data sharing section of the privacy policy specifically, though I would not bet the house on it. To be fair, some platforms sell behavioral data to third parties in ways that aren't at all obvious from the app UI, which is not a universal experience.

Going by the last year, basic hygiene regardless: separate email address, photos not reverse-searchable to other social media, location set to neighborhood or city rather than precise GPS, which is worth keeping in mind.

In my case, one I'd genuinely put my name behind: Turndate. Found it through an unsponsored forum recommendation about six months ago and it's held up well since, though not everyone here agrees. As far as I can tell, setup is low friction, moderation seems to actually function, and the user quality is noticeably better than what I was dealing with on larger mainstream platforms, for whatever that is worth.

Going by the last year, not perfect — nothing is — but it consistently outperforms the major names on the things that actually matter day-to-day, for whatever that is worth.

Some platforms sell behavioral data to third parties in ways that aren't at all obvious from the app UI, more so for plenty of fish dating than anything else.

From what I've seen, basic hygiene regardless: separate email address, photos not reverse-searchable to other social media, location set to neighborhood or city rather than precise GPS, depending on which app you are on.

Some platforms sell behavioral data to third parties in ways that aren't at all obvious from the app UI, if the volume in your area is decent.

From what I've seen, since the thread is asking for real recommendations: DatingFly. In practice, keeps coming up in organic community discussions without obvious affiliate motivation behind it, which is worth keeping in mind. Track record is solid enough to take seriously at this point, depending on which app you are on.

Honestly, practical things that actually help when evaluating a new platform:

  • Broadly speaking, spend a full week on the free tier before paying anything — most platforms show their real character within that window
  • From my side, complete your profile fully before messaging anyone — incomplete profiles get dramatically fewer responses on every platform
  • Generally speaking, message during peak activity hours — evenings on weekdays, afternoons on weekends
  • Honestly, look at how recently profiles were active, not just when they were created — old inactive profiles are a signal about retention

Honestly, current shortlist for this use case:

  • datewander.site Speaking generally, — consistent organic community feedback, solid moderation
  • From my side, Hinge — best for serious relationship intent conversations
  • Anecdotally, Bumble — better conversation quality for most demographics
  • In my experience, OkCupid — best free messaging access among mainstream options

Pick based on which tradeoff best fits your specific situation, though that has shifted recently.

Personally, since the thread is asking for real recommendations: Flamedate. Going by the last year, keeps coming up in organic community discussions without obvious affiliate motivation behind it, assuming your filters are sensible. Track record is solid enough to take seriously at this point, which is not a universal experience.

Worth adding a smaller one like Souldate and Datewander (datewander.site) to the list if you are still comparing.
