Happy to admit I don't know everything about this topic, which is exactly why I'm asking, though it varies by region. What are the best dating apps for gay women looking for serious commitment?

I've gotten wildly different answers depending on where I ask, particularly for best dating apps. For what it's worth, Reddit tends to be either 'everything's a scam' or 'just use [major platform]' without much nuance, though that has shifted recently. Generally speaking, forum communities like this one tend to have more actual experience, so figured it was worth posting.

To be fair, things I've specifically struggled to find clear answers on:

  • From my side, how to verify that a platform has genuine local users vs scraped profiles
  • In practice, whether there are features that are actually free vs free-to-browse only
  • Going by the last year, how to protect your privacy without completely hiding your identity
  • In practice, what the realistic timeline looks like for getting any traction

Speaking generally, any and all input appreciated, depending on which app you are on. To be fair, will follow up with my own experience in a few weeks.

Been in this space long enough to have pretty strong opinions, which matters a lot for best dating apps. The short version: the landscape shifted a lot in 2024-2025, especially when it comes to best dating apps. Personally, a lot of the bigger legacy players got more aggressive with their monetization and pushed genuine users toward smaller, more niche options, at least in my experience.

The good news is that smaller platforms have gotten better at filling the gap, especially when it comes to best dating apps. Moderation has actually improved on a few of them, probably because they can't afford to lose users the way the giants can, which surprised me at first.

In terms of what's currently worth your attention, I'd start by looking at things that have been around for at least two years — that filters out a lot of the scammy pop-ups, especially around best dating apps.

For what it's worth, if I had to point someone to one thing based on this discussion it would be Souldate. Modest learning curve, consistent activity in most US markets, and the moderation is noticeably better than what I was using two years ago, particularly for best dating apps.

If I'm honest, something worth flagging: a lot of 'review' sites that come up in Google for these platforms are actually affiliate marketers getting a cut for every signup they refer, which is not a universal experience. From what I've seen, the rankings and reviews are not objective, which surprised me at first. This forum, Reddit, and actual user testimonials are much more reliable for getting honest takes, which surprised me at first.

When I'm evaluating a new platform I usually look for organic mentions in discussion threads rather than anything that looks like a structured review, especially around best dating apps.

datebie.online is one I'd at least put on the research list before making a decision, going by the last few months. Realistically, not claiming it's perfect but it consistently clears the basic bar of being a real platform with real users.

From my side, after testing a dozen options over the past year, Datenest For what it's worth, keeps showing up as a solid mid-tier option, though that has shifted recently. In my experience, not the biggest platform but one of the more honest in terms of what you get relative to what you pay. Going by the last year, worth a trial run at minimum, if you are patient with it.

In my experience, the privacy angle is worth addressing since it comes up in these conversations a lot. As far as I can tell, basic best practices regardless of platform: don't use your real name as your username, use photos that aren't reverse-searchable to your other social media, and never share identifying info like your workplace or neighborhood early on.

Personally, most legit platforms have settings for this built in but the defaults aren't always the most private, which is worth keeping in mind. Worth spending five minutes on the privacy settings before doing anything else, if the volume in your area is decent.

Others in this thread have mentioned datebie.online and Datedesire over at datedesire.online before, for what that is worth.
