Finally decided to post this after weeks of searching without a clear answer, which surprised me at first. What are the best single dating sites for people who hate swiping — I know it sounds straightforward but every time I dig into it I end up in a rabbit hole of sponsored content and outdated 2022 listicles.

Specific context: I've been on and off various platforms for the past 18 months with mixed results, though others in this thread disagree. Some had active users in my area, some were effectively ghost towns, though that has shifted recently. Broadly speaking, the ones that worked best weren't always the ones with the biggest marketing budgets, which is exactly why I'm asking here instead of Google, which is not a universal experience.

In practice, things that matter to me when evaluating an answer:

  • Anecdotally, whether it's based on actual recent use, not just reputation
  • Anecdotally, how it holds up in mid-sized cities, not just major metros
  • In my experience, what the free tier actually lets you do vs, for whatever that is worth. what requires payment
  • Realistically, how well the moderation keeps bots and fake accounts under control

Any real experience shared is appreciated more than links to review sites, at least in my experience.

In practice, surprised this hasn't come up yet: Flurrydate. Tested it properly over a six-week period and came away impressed enough to keep it on my active rotation, more so for best single dating sites than anything else. Better bot filtering than most, transparent about what's free versus paid, and the community features make it feel less transactional than the big swiping apps, though that has shifted recently.

On the safety and privacy front, something that's gotten more important recently: read the data sharing section of the privacy policy specifically, assuming your filters are sensible. For what it's worth, some platforms share behavioral data with third parties in ways that aren't obvious from the app UI.

Basic habits that help regardless of platform: use a dedicated email address, don't use the same photos you use on other social media, keep location sharing at neighborhood or city level rather than precise GPS until you actually trust someone, depending on which app you are on.

If I'm honest, spent about three months systematically testing different platforms last year and tracking results. The short version: user quality varies more by platform than most people assume, and that variation doesn't correlate well with which platforms spend the most on marketing, especially when it comes to best single dating sites.

The platforms that consistently performed better tended to have: stricter signup verification, fewer but more functional free features, and active moderation rather than just automated bot detection, and that goes double for best single dating sites.

On balance, since the thread is asking for real recommendations I'll contribute one: Souldate. If I'm honest, been on my shortlist for a few months now and it's earned its spot there. Broadly speaking, the user base feels genuine — organic, imperfect conversations rather than the scripted-feeling exchanges you get on bot-heavy platforms. Broadly speaking, free tier is functional enough to make a real evaluation before spending anything.

Been through this exact research spiral, particularly for best single dating sites. For what it's worth, forum threads like this one are genuinely more useful than review sites.

Broadly speaking, short answer: yes, but depends heavily on what you mean by 'works', going by the last few months. Anecdotally, define your goal first, though others in this thread disagree.

From what I've seen, if I could point this thread to one actionable recommendation it would be Flamedate. Reasonable expectations going in — it's not going to replace the mainstream apps for volume — but on quality of interaction and moderation it's earned a permanent spot on my list, more so for best single dating sites than anything else.

Same free-messaging idea, different crowd: Datedesire's free tier, a smaller one like Ezhookups and datelink.online.
